1. Meaning and use of 'you' 'You' can refer to: - one person - more than one person (two, three, four, etc.) The verb form does not change when 'you' is singular or plural. 2. Subject + be With we / you / they, the present simple form of be is are. The contraction (short form) is 're. 3. Positive sentences (+) Structure: Subject + be (are) + phrase We're Spanish. You're actors. They're married. 4. Contractions We use ' to show a missing letter: We are → We're You are → You're They are → They're We're waiters. You're happy. They're from Italy. 5. Negative sentences (-) Structure: Subject + be + not (or contracted negative). We aren't from the UK. You aren't students. They aren't old. Alternative form: We're not tired. You're not young. They're not new. 6. Yes/No questions To make a question: Be (are) + subject + phrase They are actors. → Are they actors? Are we in Paris? Are you from Colombia? Are they office workers? 7. Short answers Structure: Yes/No + subject + be Yes, we are. No, we aren't. Yes, you are. No, you aren't. Yes, they are. No, they aren't. No, we're not.
