Warm-up

Do the quiz to check what you know about Halloween and learn something new! Check it with the rest of the group.
Halloween is a fun holiday in both the United States and the United Kingdom. People celebrate Halloween on October 31st. On this day, many people wear costumes. Some people dress like ghosts, witches, or vampires. Others choose costumes of their favorite characters from movies or TV shows. In the United States, Halloween is very popular. Many houses have decorations like pumpkins, skeletons, and spiders. Children go "trick-or-treating." They visit houses in their neighborhood to ask for candy. They say "trick or treat" at the door. Most people give candy, so the children go home with bags full of sweets. Halloween parties are also common. People play games like "bobbing for apples." In this game, apples float in water, and people try to catch them with their mouths. Another popular activity is carving pumpkins into "jack-o'-lanterns." People make funny or scary faces on the pumpkins and put a candle inside. In the United Kingdom, Halloween is also a time for fun, but it is not as big as in the United States. Some children go "trick-or-treating," and people carve pumpkins too. Adults and children enjoy watching horror movies. Some towns and cities have Halloween events, like ghost tours. Both countries listen to Halloween music and read or watch scary stories. The night is full of ghosts, magic, and exciting tales. Even though there are differences, Halloween in both the US and UK is a time for creativity and fun. People love to share the same tradition of dressing up, telling stories, and enjoying treats.
