To form the superlative degree in English, you usually compare three or more things to show that one has the highest degree of a quality. 1. For one-syllable adjectives, add "-est" to the end of the adjective. - Example: tall → tallest 2. For two-syllable adjectives ending in "y," change the "y" to "i" and add "-est." - Example: happy → happiest 3. For two-syllable adjectives that do not end in "y" and for adjectives with three or more syllables, use "most" before the adjective. - Example: careful → most careful - Example: beautiful → most beautiful 4. Some irregular adjectives have unique superlative forms. - Good → best - Bad → worst Conditions: - Use "the" before the superlative adjective. - Only use the superlative form when comparing three or more items. - Not all adjectives can be compared (perfect, unique), so use them correctly.
