Study this grammar rule.

1) was / were going to - Use to talk about a plan in the past that did not happen. Form: was / were + going to + verb I was going to call, but I was too busy. They were going to visit the museum, but it was closed. Negative: wasn't / weren't going to 2) planned to / hoped to - Similar meaning to 'was going to'. - Use in the past simple or past continuous. I planned to visit, but I couldn't. I was planning to take you, but we didn't have time. I hoped to finish, but something went wrong. I was hoping to meet him, but he wasn't there. Negative: wasn't planning to I wasn't planning to go anywhere. 3) Other verbs for past intentions (past continuous) - Use verbs like 'expect', 'wait' to show intentions or plans. I was expecting to go to Turkey. They were waiting to finish university. 4) meant to - Use for a planned action that didn't happen. - More common in the past simple. I meant to call, but I forgot. We meant to invite you. Negative: didn't mean to → for accidents I didn't mean to crash the car. 5) intend to (more formal) - Shows a serious or formal plan. - More common in past simple. The doctor intended to see me. - Used to explain reasons: He bought the ring because he intended to propose. Negative: didn't intend 6) thought it would be - Use to explain why you planned to do something. I brought you because I thought it would be nice.
