1. What is it used for? We use the present simple to describe live events as they happen, especially when we are: Commentating on sports Describing ceremonies or public events Giving live reports (on TV, radio, or in writing) Even though the action is happening now, we use the present simple, not the present continuous. 2. Structure: Subject + base verb (+ -s / -es for he, she, it) 3. Examples: He passes the ball to Rooney. Rooney scores. The Queen waves to the crowd. These sentences describe actions at the exact moment they happen. 4. Why do we use the present simple? The actions are short and finished very quickly The speaker wants to make the event sound immediate and dramatic This style is common in commentary and reporting 5. Common verbs used in live events pass, shoot, score, run, kick wave, smile, bow, shake hands enter, leave, stop, start
