Present Continuous vs. Present Simple
Present Simple:
- Use the present simple to talk about habits, routines, and facts.
- Structure: Subject + base form of the verb (add "s" or "es" for he, she, it).
- Examples: "I exercise every week."
"It snows in the winter."
Negative Form:
- Structure: Subject + do/does not + base form of the verb.
- Examples: "We do not work at that company."
"He does not like coffee."
Interrogative Form:
- Structure: Do/Does + subject + base form of the verb?
- Examples: "Do you play soccer?"
"Does he play a musical instrument?"
Note: You can use such words as "always", "usually", "often", "sometimes", and "never" with the present simple. Also, "every hour/week/month/year".
Present Continuous:
- Use the present continuous to talk about actions happening right now or temporary situations.
- Structure: Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing.
- Examples: "They are studying for an exam."
"She is studying for an exam."
Negative Form:
- Structure: Subject + am/is/are not + verb-ing.
- Examples: "I am not watching TV."
"He is not reading a book right now."
Interrogative Form:
- Structure: Am/Is/Are + subject + verb-ing?
- Examples: "Are you reading right now?"
"Is she taking a language course at the moment?"
Note: You can use such words as "at the moment", "now", or "right now" with the present continuous.
