Separable phrasal verbs are verbs made up of a verb and a preposition or adverb. When you use them with object pronouns (like me, you, him, her, it, us, them), the object pronoun can go between the verb and the particle (preposition/adverb). Example: Pick up → "I will pick you up at 5 p.m." Turn off → "Please turn it off." When to separate the phrasal verb: If the object is a pronoun, place it between the verb and the particle. Example: "She turned it off." If the object is a noun (a person, thing, or idea), the object usually goes after the phrasal verb. In some cases, it can also go between the verb and the particle. Example: "She turned off the light."/ She turned the light off." 7 Common separable phrasal verbs to remember: 1. Pick up Example: "Can you pick me up from the airport?" 2. Turn off Example: "Please turn it off when you're done." 3. Call back Example: "I will call you back later." 4. Put off Example: "They decided to put the meeting off until next week." 5. Bring up Example: "He brought it up during the meeting." 6. Take off Example: "My coat was too warm, so I took it off." 7. Set up Example: "I will set the equipment up for you."
