All, Some, Both, None of Them

These expressions describe how many people or things we mean from a group. 1) Meaning all of = 100% most of = more than half (over 50%) some of = a small or unknown number none of = 0% both of = 2 out of 2 Examples: All of the students passed. Most of the students like English. Some of the students are absent. None of the students understood. Both of my parents work. 2) Structure a) With nouns all / most / some / none + of + the / my / our + plural noun Most of the people get up early. All of my friends live nearby. b) With pronouns all / most / some / none / both + of + us / you / them All of us went to the party. Most of you know her. None of them called. Both of us like football. 3) Word order with verbs With 'be' be + all / both You're all early. They're both here. With other verbs all / both + verb You all need to listen. They both live in Dublin. 4) Most of the vs most (no of) Most of the + plural noun → specific group Most of the students in my class like maths. Most + plural noun → general meaning Most students like chocolate. NOT: Most of people / Most of students
